From habits to independence

Make time work: why students misjudge how long tasks take, and how to help them

Dyedra looked at why time management is so hard to build, even though it topped the list of skills delegates linked to independent learners in July. She covered why students, and adults, consistently underestimate how long tasks will take, and what’s going on when time management goes wrong. She closed on the strategies that help students plan their time more accurately.

Same principles, higher stakes: why good pedagogy mustn’t stop at 16

Keep teaching standards high after 16 and leave room for subject passion

Alex looked at what the research tells us about good pedagogy in the sixth form. She focused on holding post-16 teaching to the same high standards as the rest of the school while giving teachers room to share their passion for their subject. She also looked at what can get in the way, from rigid slide decks to inflexible curricula.
